Role Description

As a member of our Product Development team, you’ll work in an agile environment delivering industry-leading SaaS products and web service platforms.

As Software Engineering Manager, you will be responsible for leading and providing guidance to a team of full stack software engineers. You will have the opportunity to help software engineers grow in their careers while delivering a world-class ed-tech software product for one of the world’s largest Moodle™-based LMS platforms provider.

Role Responsibilities

  • Manage a team of software engineers
  • Help your engineers grow their skills and experience by providing opportunities for professional development
  • Provide guidance and coaching to team members on technical contributions, product architecture, and other areas
  • Partner with Product Management, DevOps, Quality Assurance and Client Support teams to plan and assist in estimating future releases
  • Stay aware of current team engineering processes and practices. Examples might be: evaluating individual workflow during one on ones, conducting code reviews, or working on non-critical path bugs and/or features
  • Actively seek and hire the best MoodleTM developers
  • Conduct managerial interviews for candidates, and train the team to do technical interviews
  • Contribute to the building a sense of team and trust among the team
  • Generate and implement process improvements
  • Hold regular 1:1s with all members of their team
  • Assist team members in drafting yearly goals
  • Give regular and clear feedback of team members’ performance
  • Foster technical decision making on the team, but make final decisions when necessary
  • Lead the team in drafting quarterly OKRs and other metrics
  • Improve product quality, security, and performance

Requirements

The Candidate will have these required skills:

  • 5+ years of software engineering or software engineering management experience
  • 2+ year of leadership experience
  • Experience designing, writing, and deploying scalable software
  • Hands on experience with the LAMP stack (PHP), SQL databases, and web application development
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, can communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical audiences, and is fluent in English
  • Experience working with a team of engineers on cross-functional agile projects
  • Experience leading code reviews and mentoring engineers

Preferable skills

  • Knowledge of / experience with MoodleTM
  • Experience with agile methodologies (Scrum)
  • Bachelor degree in computer science or similar
  • Experience with cloud-based hosting solutions (AWS)
  • Experience hiring and managing technical consultants
  • English B2 or higher
