We're on the hunt for a talented Project Manager in e-learning/digital learning sector to join our growing team at LEO Learning!

LEO’s project managers are at the forefront of our business and the role has two main aspects. They build relationships with Global customers and potential customers alike, help to identify their needs and propose solutions.They are also leading multi-functional teams in content production, technical platforms & consulting. This includes managing scope, budget and schedule as we deliver high quality products and experiences.

You will work closely with learning designers, software engineers, account managers and consultants, servicing our customers as a trusted delivery partner on long term, high value programmes of work.

The role is demanding, complex, and multifaceted. It calls for the ability to manage your own time efficiently, communicate clearly and effectively, focus on a thousand essential details whilst always keeping your eye on the bigger picture. Ultimately, you’ll be judged on your ability to provide a world-class customer experience whilst maintaining tight control over schedule, budget and revenue.

In this role you will:

  • Ensure that customers and colleagues alike have a first class experience of the LEO project management function
  • Focus on commercial aspects, meeting or exceeding revenue and profitability targets whilst meeting programme objectives, maintaining schedules and levels of quality
  • Ensuring that QA/QC process are followed and activities are carried out in line with our ISO 9001-accredited quality management system (project checklists)
  • In conjunction with the project leads, manage the collaboration of the project team to develop high quality solutions that are fit for purpose and achievable within the budget and schedule
  • Take responsibility for the creation of essential project documentation, such as the Project Initiation Document, the Risks & Opportunities Register, and the Project Schedule
  • Help identify and then facilitate creation of any other essential project documentation, such as the Design Solution, Technical Specification, Scoping Document, Scripts and Retrospectives
  • Provide regular written reports to the customer on progress, risks, milestones and invoicing status, and maintain regular contact by telephone
  • Maintain all systems related to project governance and financial control in a timely and accurate manner
  • Collaborate with Skills Managers to identify the ideal project team leads and other project team members
  • Ensure that all financial reporting is completed accurately and on time
  • Work with other client services members to contribute to account development plans
  • Where applicable, identify upselling and cross-selling opportunities within your accounts and across LTG
  • Mentor project executives and less experienced project management colleagues


  • Managing scope, budget, and schedule - the most fundamental aspect of the project manager’s job is the ability to deliver projects that meet the customer’s requirement on time, whilst meeting all the responsibilities around revenue and profitability.
  • Leading teams - to manage your scope, budget and schedule effectively, you’ll need to be an effective leader, capable of describing the vision for a project and leading, motivating and resolving conflicts in multidisciplinary teams that are often spread across multiple locations.
  • Resourcing, planning and scheduling - making sure that you have the right people, doing the right tasks, at the right time - and being able to cope when events throw your schedule out of the window.
  • Communicating - being clear, concise, timely and effective in your communications; and choosing the right medium and format for your audience, whether it’s a sales presentation or morning briefing to a project team.
  • Managing documentation - as a PM you’ll handle a lot of critical documents - specifications, contracts, reports, etc. - and both colleagues and customers will rely on your ability to process and store them correctly.
  • Managing risks - identifying issues which are potential hazards and risks on your projects, assessing their consequences, then putting in place layers of protection or mitigation.
  • Negotiating - with customers over price and scope, with your project teams over what is and isn’t achievable with the time and budget available, and with other project managers over project bookings.
  • Managing quality - being the primary driver of quality within the project team, in terms of both exceptional deliverables and customer experience, by planning quality assurance and quality control activities and making sure they are carried out. It’s also about leading by example and ensuring that nothing goes out without you seeing it, reviewing it and approving the release.
  • Managing your own time - achieving all the above calls for a high level of organisation and the ability to manage multiple simultaneous demands for your time.
  • Managing others’ time - tracking the amount of time booked to the project by LEO staff, freelancers, non-team staff and sister companies within LTG, and being able to ratify that against work done.
  • Leading meetings - meeting logistics , creating agendas, circulating preparatory material; leading the meeting, sticking to timings and agenda points, resolving conflicts and taking notes; circulating minutes and actions afterwards, and following up to make sure they are done.
  • Collaboration - drawing on the experience of colleagues, from within the Client Services team, elsewhere in LEO or across LTG, in designing, planning, implementing and delivering programmes of work.
  • Building relationships - elevating LEO from being ‘just another vendor’ to becoming a trusted partner and the first call a customer makes. This involves identifying the right people to talk to, knowing how to relate to them, understanding their needs, building their trust, managing their expectations, adding value, increasing satisfaction, solving their problems and turning them into stars in their own organisation.
  • Delegating tasks - there are tasks that the PM needs to do tasks that other members of the project team should do, and tasks that make great development opportunities for other PM team members; identifying and delegating them appropriately, with measurable objectives, is an important skill.
  • Questioning - the ability to ask the right sort of questions at the right time. Are you asking an open ended question in order to uncover something new? Are you asking a closed question to confirm specific information? Have you considered who you’re asking when you’re deciding on the medium and language for your question?
  • Listening - not just to what customers and colleagues say, but the way they say it and what they don’t say. This includes watching someone’s body language and reading their non-verbal cues as means to truly understanding what they are conveying to you.

Knowledge & experience

  • Project management methodologies - understanding when Waterfall, Agile or another methodology is the best approach; being able to confidently and successfully apply a model, even when other team members are unfamiliar with it; and being able to mix and match, to come up with the best process for the client.
  • Digital & Elearning production experience
  • Financial concepts - knowing the difference between markup and margin, profit and revenue, and everything in between.
  • Tools - whilst a PM doesn’t need to know how to use the authoring tools that LEO use, it is important to know what they are, what they can do, their relative strengths and weaknesses, and what their comparative costs are.
  • Technologies - as with tools, PMs need to know the details of the different technologies so they can talk with confidence and therefore effectively sell them, whether it’s the difference between HTML vs Flash, iOS vs Android, adaptive vs responsive, or Chrome vs Internet Explorer.
  • Quality management - as well as the quality of goods and services, PMs play a vital role in our quality management system and ensuring that we retain our ISO certification by ensuring documentation is completed and stored correctly, following standard operating procedures, participating in audits, espousing the principles of Continuous Improvement and so on.
  • Industry knowledge - following the news, learning about new developments, researching the latest technologies, making contacts of thought leaders and keeping abreast of general trends so as to sound like an expert and be able to speak confidently with clients.
  • Net Promoter Score - understanding how NPS works is an important step in understanding how better to service your customers. It’s not just maintaining scores - it’s understanding what you did to get those scores, and following up low scores to turn detractors into promoters.
  • G Suite - knowing how we use Google’s suite of productivity tools - Gmail, Drive, Sheets, Docs, Slides and Hangouts - and being confident using them is important.
  • Microsoft Office - similarly, you need a good working knowledge of Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Jira and Confluence - being able to use Jira and Confluence allows you to contribute to the LEO intranet, follow project documentation and keep track of time and tasks on projects.
  • Resource planning - it’s important that you have a good understanding of how to effectively plan your resources using a variety of tools and softwares.
